WINSTON-SALEM, February 11, 2008 The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center announces the appointment of Allston J. Stubbs, M.D., as assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery.  Stubbs will be part of the sports medicine program, joining physicians Walton W. Curl, Cristin M. Ferguson, David F. Martin, Gary G. Poehling, Sara L. Neal, Daryl A. Rosenbaum and Heath C. Thornton.  A native of Winston-Salem, Stubbs received his undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine. He performed his orthopaedic surgery training at Duke University Medical Center. Stubbs completed three fellowships: sports medicine and arthroscopic hip surgery, both at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colo., and pediatric sports medicine at Harvard Medical School’s Children’s Hospital in Boston, Mass. He is the founding member of the North Carolina Sports Medicine Institute of Winston-Salem.

His experience as a team physician includes: Duke University, the Denver Broncos, the U.S. Ski Team,

the Colorado Rockies, the Boston Marathon, and the Boston Ballet. An expert on hip arthroscopy, Stubbs has authored research journal articles, created orthopaedic instructional videos, and given lectures at national and international orthopaedic surgery conferences.
